On September 24th, Paradise Carpet One Floor & Home in Lawrence, KS, proudly supported and sponsored Lawrence Habitat for Humanity’s Women Build program at their Women Build Happy Hour. This event sold out and raised over a thousand dollars in donations alone for the cause.
Guests of this event were able to attend both virtually and in-person and were invited to partake in an online auction that allowed for guests to bid on items such as homemade crafted goods, weekend getaways, Kansas City Royals tickets, and more that helped support the cause.
Women Build is Habitat for Humanity’s program that brings women from all walks of life and backgrounds together to address the housing crisis facing millions of women and children worldwide. The initiative is organized by a committee of community members who raise funds to build a home in partnership with a low-income family in the Lawrence community every other year. The first sponsored home that Women Build completed was in 2002. Over this past summer, the organization completed its 10th home.
In addition to building new homes for families in need, Women Build also encourages women to be involved in fundraising, construction, and the completion of affordable housing. Women represent a tremendous volunteer pool on these projects. Women Build houses provide an opportunity for women to learn new skills such as construction while working with crews that are also made up predominantly of women.
Thank you to our members at Paradise Carpet One Floor & Home for their active support for both Habitats for Humanity and their Women Build program!
